Project Goals

Bowdon, Georgia is a west Georgia municipality with a small-town feel. City officials contacted us when their website was being discontinued by their previous administrator. Citizens would be unable to pay their water bill online, and city government would be unable to post mandatory public notices. In addition, the city had been unhappy with their previous firm’s lack of support and use of a generic template, resulting in a website that was bland and uninspired.

Our initial goal was to quickly provide a basic website in order to meet the city’s functional requirements. Our long-term goal was to streamline the experience of visitors and more accurately represent Bowdon, Georgia as “The Friendly City.”

Government Functions

Our team immediately backed up the city’s website files before it was disabled. We secured their domain and had a functioning website up within 24 hours. Community members were again able to access the city’s water billing portal, and Bowdon’s public notices were available online.

Over the weeks, we were able to rebuild and consolidate the page structure using information from the backup, saving city officials considerable time in having to track down copy, logo, and image files.

Bowdon opted for continued management, and our team addresses change requests and updates within 24 hours. Importantly, city officials have full access to the website should they choose to self-manage or transfer administration to another WordPress developer in the future.

Business Directory

Bowdon Main Street requested a new community business directory. The previous directory had limited functionality, with addresses and phone numbers only. We developed a dedicated site with a sorting function, company logos, social media and website links, as well as an interactive map. Each business also has the option to claim their listing in order to keep their business information current.

Branding

The city of Bowdon takes great pride in their champion football team, so the main pages are styled with Bowdon Red Devil ‘red.’ Images reflect the lush, rural landscape and small-town feel of Bowdon. We also converted Bowdon’s logo to a vector image, enabling a more dynamic color scheme, while providing the city more flexibility with their logo in the future.

The City of Bowdon has an active Main Street program that supports their business community. The director requested that we style the Main Street pages to coordinate with their logo. We used the logo colors to create pages that have an inviting, professional aesthetic, while differentiating the Main Street pages from the rest of the site.

Photography

While the main content of the website was created during the winter months, we made plans for a spring visit to Bowdon, which is nearby. Their website now features some of the photographs and video we captured. Our goal was to highlight the beauty and culture of the City of Bowdon.
